
Anna is a PhD student in the Neuroscience Training Program (NTP) at UW–Madison. Her thesis project is focused on melanopsin phototransduction in primates across different developmental time points. She is passionate about sensory transduction research and comparative neurobiology.
Before her PhD, Anna worked as a research assistant in Dr. Jörgen Kornfeld’s lab at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), contributing to the lab’s relocation from the Max Planck Institute in Munich and supporting research on machine learning-based identification of vesicles in Drosophila connectomics data. She earned her master’s degree in Basic and Translational Neuroscience from the University of Cambridge in 2024. Her research, conducted also at the MRC LMB under the supervision of Dr. Bill Schafer in collaboration with Dr. Eve Seuntjens at KU Leuven in Belgium, focused on monoamine GPCRs in the visual system of Octopus vulgaris. Anna holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Neurobiology and Chemistry (with a minor in Theatre) from UW–Madison. As an undergraduate, she worked with Dr. Meyer Jackson, investigating short-term synaptic plasticity of parvalbumin interneurons in mouse barrel cortex.
Outside of the lab, Anna is a passionate fiber artist (knitting, spinning, weaving, etc.) and photographer. She also spends a lot of time with Toast, her ferret, and traveling.
